My Day Off, by Frazzled Mom…
I had an extended day off today. Well, it wasn’t completely a day off. I still had Taz all day, but Sweets went on a play date after school so all I had to worry about was dropping her at school in the morning. It was so nice not to have to watch the clock all day. I didn’t have to wake Taz abruptly from his morning nap and chuck him in the car to get Sweets. He didn’t eat in the car, getting chunks and crumbs all over the place. Instead we had a leisurely lunch (okay, leisurely for Taz is maybe 12 minutes instead of 10) with gooey ingredients. We played outside and read books. It was really nice not to have to divide my attention between pushing Sweets in the swings or going down the slide and dashing over to the deck to make sure Taz didn’t try to jump off. Somehow, I could breath a little bit easier.
Still, I missed her. It was a different dynamic. When she came home I asked her what the best part of her day was. My heart soared as she said, “coming home!” Oh, she loves me! I thought. Then she continued, “in Clara’s car.” D’oh!
I guess you could say I’m still getting used to this second kid thing, even after a year. I really thought it would be a piece of cake; that Taz would just be a boy version of Sweets. Geez was I naive! It just occurred to me that, any time now, he’ll start running. I’m afraid I won’t be able to keep up. Sure, I can run faster, but he keeps me on my toes so much that I just worry what will happen if he gets out of my sight. I’m hoping that, when he does start sprinting, he knows the word “no” and knows that I mean it! And I hope he lets me catch up once in awhile.

Sounded like everyone had a great day! I am sure she missed you, she just had a nice day which is good to know she is growing some independence.
